Grave

Today we walked round a natural burial ground, visiting the grave of S's mother. It was just lovely, on a gentle slope, leading down to a stream and a pond and up the other side then drifting into ancient woodlands. Most of the graves were marked with a bench made of a thick chunk of wood, that will eventually become reabsorbed into the earth. There were smaller wooden markers by each grave and many had native plants, so primroses, daffodils and bluebells flowering now. Loads of trees too, planted in kind of swathes. S said her mother wanted to go there, she was a pagan and a bit of an eco-warrior so this was a perfect resting place. I could put Sammie's ashes there but although it's not far away it's a place I've never been to before, or even driven past so it seems like 'over there' and I don't want her over there, I want to keep her here, nearby. Always.
