“Where did you experience tenderness, then?” Sometimes a question asked on a podcast can make you gasp with its pertinence. This was being asked of the Archbishop of Canterbury who also had a very lackadaisical childhood but was able to answer at once that his grandmother had met that need.
But fucking hell. It’s no wonder I’m a bit weird, if that’s part of everyday life for most people. Tenderness? No, mate. Not till I was way older, old enough to find it strange, uncomfortable.
It’s made me feel very sad for little me.
