At last
6/7/24 I don’t know whether to write about the camping holiday or the election, but fucking hell, it’s the election, isn’t it? I can’t believe it’s over, that we’re finally shot of that bunch of utter cunts, Jesus, so many of them, one after another after another, each more greedy and heartless, more full of shit, than the last. We got used to the lies, the corruption, the backhanders to mates, slashing of anything decent, anything needed by ordinary people. Ordinary people becoming poorer and poorer, with less and less recourse to any kind of justice. I hadn’t realized how much I was holding the anxiety in my body about what else they might do until last night, when I managed to breathe freely again. It felt like walking out of a shit relationship – and I’ve done that more times than I can count. I haven’t been a big fan of Starmer, mainly because he seemed to be dragging Labour further and further to the right, but maybe he wasn’t, We’ll see. But he’s already made great appointments – Angela Rayner – she’s fought her way up from being a teenage single mother with no education and unlike many in that situation who say ‘I did it so you can if you try hard enough’ she seems to be wanting to make things better for the poorest and most needy. She’s been given responsibility for ‘Levelling up’ – a bogus job created by the Tories so they could say they were trying to help everyone, even if they did nothing – and housing. Housing is a big fucking mess – I can’t imagine where a person could even start – maybe by banning no-fault evictions, and restoring the obligation for rented property to be fit for human habitation – can you believe those fuckers actually removed that requirement? Voted for it to be scrapped – how can they sleep? The other good appointment I noticed was James Timpson being put in charge of prisons. He’s really cool, but a sudden wave of exhaustion has swept over me and I must go to bed.
