annanotbob2's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Happy birthday to you It's all very well celebrating her birthday, but she's not fucking there, is she? But we did anyway, and it's better than not celebrating. Niece made a cake, a totally fabby cake: And I'm glad she took that photo because it didn't look like that for long once it was in the possession of me and Daughter, because we're too bloody casual. Anyway, we had a fancy meal first, lobster in a roof garden restaurant over-looking the sea and we laughed a bit and cried a bit before going to the beach and making this: Well, daughter made it, I collected the pale flat stones that made the circle and we'd brought the sea glass and the flowers. It really helps, having something to do that feels like it's for Sam somehow, focuses the mind and is a bit beautiful. We did one in a park one year, using sticks and leaves and dandelion flowers - just things that are there so we can walk away and leave it without it being litter and other people hopefully will see it and enjoy it too. We had a swim and ate cake - I don't know when it slid off it's little silver disc and crashed into the side of the box, but it still tasted lush and we gave quite a bit to the crows. As both Daughter and Bloke are theoretically off sugar, I'm going to make the leftovers into a trifle and eat it all myself. which is far more beautiful in every way - it's Rosa Alba Maxima, an ancient, highly fragrant variety that can be dated back to 1500 according to the RHS, but we'd asked for one to grow in a pot and now I've looked it up this will be miles too big. It may have to go in the garden and I'll try to source the other one. 12:32 a.m. - 23.08.22 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
